Ivan Berlin, M.D., Ph.D. is tenured Associate Professor in Clinical Pharmacology at the Pierre and Marie Curie University Paris 6, Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital - Medical School, and is affiliated also to French National Institute of Research on Health and Medicine (INSERM) in Paris, France. His missions are research (50 % time), teaching (30 %) and patient care (20%).Dr Berlin earned his medical degree from the Semmelweis University Medical School in Budapest, Hungary. He is board certified in Internal Medicine. He earned his Ph.D. in pharmacology in 1988 and an Authorization to Direct Research degree (approximately D.S.c) in 1994, both from the Pierre and Marie Curie University Paris 6.
In 1999-2000 Dr Berlin was visiting scientist at the National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Institute of Health, Baltimore, M.D., and in 2008-2009, he was visiting associate professor at Columbia University Medical Center, New York, NY.
Dr Berlin has authored more than 100 original, peer-reviewed publications, approximately half of which focuses on issues related to smoking and smoking cessation. He has also contributed to several books on smoking and smoking cessation.
Dr Berlin has been a consultant to several French health authorities (French FDA, Ministry of Health, etc) on smoking-related issues and on psychotropic drugs with particular attention to drugs used for smoking cessation or addictive disorders.
He is presently the Deputy Editor of the journal “Nicotine and Tobacco Research” and program chair of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco Europe annual meetings.
